The best golfers in the world have made fitness an integral part of their game and have forever changed Golf. Technological improvements in equipment have helped, however more than ever Golf Professionals are investing in physical health. Most amateurs, however, have not taken advantage of getting their bodies in the best physical condition to play the game they love. It may be the shortage of proper fitness programs specific to golf, it may be that the information out there just doesn’t seem to fit the individual, it may be the fear of injury or maybe the lack of a personal plan based on individual needs. One thing is for sure, investing in your physical health will add to the enjoyment of your game.

 

Titleist began a program in 1995 that documented the common features of the professional golf swing. They found that all golfers sequence their swing exactly the same across all skill levels from backswing to follow through. Although styles differ, the sequencing remains constant. The results of this research led to the formation of the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and the development of an evaluation method that measures all facets affecting performance including strength, flexibility, neuromuscular control, joint mobility, balance and power. What prevents the amateur golfer from playing like a pro is the breakdown of this sequence at some point during the swing. This is often caused by physical limitations that can be fixed with the proper intervention. For instance, a weak “core” (abdomen and back) will prevent a golfer from staying in their posture through their golf swing resulting in inconsistent ball striking.

  

F.I.T. For Golfers is a customized program design is unique in that your Certified TPI Instructor is also a certified personal trainer and avid golfer. This unique combination of skill sets offers unparalleled insight into the physical limitations affecting the golf swing. Your certified trainer has experience working with qualified professionals orthopedics and sports medicine. Combine this with the TPI programming and you will be provided with a comprehensive golf specific physical examination and a customized golf strength and flexibility program specific to your individual needs. 

The TPI revolutionary research on golf biomechanics and golf fitness over the years has resulted in a compilation of normative data of multiple body parts, which are vital to the golf swing. The physical examination completed by the certified instructor compares the client to the average measurements found on the PGA and LPGA tours. The examination assesses all physical factors affecting the golf swing to identify areas that may need to be improved for the most efficient golf swing. The evaluation will identify deficits so the instructor can compile an individualized golf performance and conditioning program to improve the deficient areas.

 

Your evaluation will lead to a personalized exercise prescription designed to address your physical limitations as they relate to your golf swing. We recognize that we are all not cut out to be touring pros and setting aside several hours per day for golf fitness isn’t realistic, however we can all take steps in the right direction with whatever time we have available. Your personal Golf Strength & Flexibility program will allow you to maximize your potential by investing the limited time you do have on the physical limitations that will make a difference on the course.
